The final seminar in my Together on a Mission track takes the theme from our local cities to the cities of the world. The title is 'Thinking internationally about church planting.'

Over the next few years I believe Newfrontiers will see churches started in many major cities of the world. I have the privilege of being involved in church plants in St Petersburg and Boston.

An amazing businessman and apostolic leader Scott Marques, who is based in southern Africa, will talk on the important theme of ‘A businessman’s dream’. I am passionate about getting our business leaders caught up in world mission. My feeling is that many of them can get a little frustrated in church life that does not engage them in the same kind of risk and challenge that their daily work-life gives them.

I am going to look at the subject of thinking strategically about cross-cultural church planting. Scott will then cover the area of ‘Engaging cross culturally’ and Andy Martin (Woodside Church Bedford) will finish highlighting the amazing opportunities that are open for us in many nations and cities of the world.

Carrying on planning for Together on a Mission 09

Adam Purcell (CCM), having looked at my first draft came up with the second seminar title, ‘Using the city to reach the city’. This seminar was partly inspired by talking to Adrian Warnock (Jubilee Church London) about Christ Church Manchester’s website. This came shortly after visiting Boston USA where another good friend of mine Dave Hill (Abundant Grace Church) had been given the opportunity of hosting a weekly spot on a Boston radio station.

This seminar is going to look at blogs, websites, facebook, radio, TV and advertising. It seems to me that there has never been a more accessible way of getting our message out to the cities of the world. Adrian’s insights will be a real help to those like myself, who are looking for keys to access this new and developing media.

Adrian Holloway is one of Newfrontiers’ evangelists and is based in Christ Church London. He also has a background in the media. He is going talk about the many evangelism opportunities in our cities and also look at how to make our Sundays more mission-shaped.

Having come up with the title A Global Church for a Global World, I then moved on to designing the first seminar 'Building churches that reach the nations'. Over past few years I have been challenged by the fact that we can reach many nations by being intentional about cross-cultural mission in our major cities such as Manchester. The themes that I chose reflected my passions and also the gifts of the speakers that were chosen for the session.

Evan Rogers, a worship leader I admire a lot, is speaking on the theme Worship for all nations. Last June Evan served us brilliantly here at Christ Church Manchester (CCM), speaking at a conference we hosted for worship leaders who wanted to see multi-cultural worship in their home churches. Our Sunday meeting still rings out with some of the praise songs Evan taught us. He also imparted faith to see all the nations worshiping together. (You can still find Evan’s teaching from that day here.)

Steve Tibbert, a good friend of mine who I have the great pleasure of serving with in some of our large churches, is going to speak on building a large multi-cultural church. Owen Hilton who was with him in Kings Catford and is now leading his own church, is going to cover the challenges of raising leaders from all nations. Finally, we’ll cover intentionally building with all nations, including the amazing church growth potential of building this way in our cities. As you can see I am very enthusiastic about the way the seminar has developed!

Planning Together On A Mission 09

This last week has been very pressurised and also amazingly provoking.

One of my tasks was to put together a seminar track for the Brighton Together On A Mission leadership conference. Just the process of putting the three seminars together made me look at some of the things we have been buzzing with as we plant Christ Church Manchester and equip church planters in different cities of he world.

A Global Church for a Global World became the overall title. I then added a strapline - ‘City-impacting churches from all nations, for all nations’. This so fits in with our heart for Manchester, as we see the phenomenon of people from many nations populating our city.

I then had the fun of creating seminars around the theme, and also inviting speakers, many whom I personally know and enjoy friendship with. I am so excited about the track and over the next few days will open up the themes and introduce the speakers.
