CCM Culture

"Many people have not been taught explicitly about the culture, but ‘caught’ the culture at CCM and positively embraced it. "
Over the years I have preached and run many groups looking at the ‘vision and values’ of the church. Honestly, sometimes this has felt a little static and more like a Bible study. So recently I have been interested to see what those vision and values look like as they shape the culture of the church.
Culture is the predominating attitudes and behaviour that characterise the functioning of a group or organisation. When new people come into any church they quickly pick up what is the prevailing culture.
Over the past few weeks I have been very pleased to hear new people describe the culture of Christ Church Manchester in ways that are consistent with our values, and the type of church we are trying to build.
Many people have not been taught explicitly about the culture, but ‘caught’ the culture at CCM and positively embraced it. The danger of not articulating explicitly what the culture is can leave you vulnerable to people who try to influence and change the culture (albeit sometimes unintentionally). This is especially the case where the church has not understood the biblical foundation that has shaped the thinking and practice.
With this in mind, and being persuaded that this would be an amazing series, we are embarking on a six-month preaching series entitled CCM Culture. The six areas we are going to cover include being a Praying culture, a Passionate culture, a Welcoming culture, a Generous culture, an Empowering culture and a Missional culture.
